Role Objective

The Head - Projects will be responsible for spearheading the implementation of the expansion
strategy for the Malabar Gold & Diamonds India business, to facilitate the sustained growth and
profitability of the business through introduction of new stores or renovation of existing stores.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

• Provide strategic leadership for the Project function and develop project plans that are in
alignment with MGD’s overall organizational objectives
• Proactively question existing processes and bring about automation/improvements to
enhance efficiency and optimize results
• In partnership with the Head – New Business Development, forecast and plan new store
openings and renovation/refitting projects for the upcoming year


• Prepare the annual project budgets and gather the necessary approvals for the same
• Evaluate feasibility studies conducted and share recommendations on the way forward
with management
• Finalize the store requirements, store layout and design of the team in collaboration with
the Visual Merchandising team
• Liaise with the international Projects team to align on common design approaches where
applicable, with the aim of providing a uniform customer experience of an MGD store
regardless of which country they are in
• Oversee all projects in India business to ensure completion on time and within budget,
using best-in-class resources
• Manage project financials and develop guidelines on resource mobilization to sufficiently
supplement project requirements based on scope
• Oversee vendor management activities (eg: releasing tenders, identifying and evaluating
vendors, defining SOW, negotiating rates, timely release of payments etc.) to enable the
best quality of service is obtained at the optimum price
• Actively liaise with cross-functional stakeholders to gather inputs on their civil and
maintenance related requirements and cater to the same
• Closely monitor all project statuses and resolve any project escalations that may cause
• Ensure the upkeep of project documentation to maintain uniformity and transparency
• Provide periodic reports about existing and upcoming projects to the management and
ensure it is in line with the overall business objectives
• In case of new stores, create and deploy cross-functional teams for starting up store
operations and hand-holding store staff
• Upon project completion, obtain feedback from key stakeholders and incorporate the
same into future projects, to enhance quality of service provided
• Lead the creation, approval and maintenance of material sample boards, to enhance
standardization of practices

Team Development:

• Communicate job expectations to the team; plan, monitor, appraise and review job
contributions in a regular manner
• Confer with team members to discuss issues, coordinate activities or resolve problems to
facilitate execution excellence
• Monitor team performance on a continuous basis to identify and develop high performers
so as to motivate them, and coach low performers
• Build a strong second line of leadership by providing direct reports with adequate
exposure and growth opportunities
